Understanding

Auditory Processing

This session explores auditory processing differences and how sound affects access, communication, and regulation. It examines noise, processing speed, predictability, and environmental demands, alongside the impact on stress, fatigue, and wellbeing.

Although this session focuses mainly on autism, auditory processing differences can also apply to other neurodivergent conditions and those with learning disabilities.

By completing this CPD session, participants will demonstrate that they can:

Understand auditory processing and how it differs from hearing experiences.

Recognise signs of auditory overload and distress responses.

Identify environmental factors that increase auditory demand.

Understand why we see auditory oversensitivity so often in autistic people.

What auditory support works and what strategies can help total sensory demand.

This training provides up to 1 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and is suitable for professionals working in education, health, care, and corporate settings.
