Autism & Eating Difficulties

This session explores why eating can be challenging for autistic people, why these difficulties are frequently misunderstood or minimised, and what helps. It examines sensory processing, anxiety, physical experiences, and the main associated eating disorders: Pica, Anorexia, and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder.

By completing this CPD session, participants will demonstrate that they can:

Understand common reasons autistic people experience eating difficulties.

Recognise the role of sensory processing in eating responses.

Identify the links between anxiety and anxiety disorders and eating.

Understand how eating difficulties affect health and wellbeing.

Apply low-pressure and supportive eating strategies.

This training provides up to 1-2 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and is suitable for professionals working in education, health, care, and corporate settings.
