Autism & Physical Health
This session explores the relationship between autism and physical health and why physical needs are frequently unmet or misattributed. It examines co-occurring conditions, sensory and communication differences, and diagnostic overshadowing, alongside the impact on wellbeing, access, and quality of care.
By completing this CPD session, participants will demonstrate that they can:
Recognise common physical health conditions associated with autistic experiences.
Understand how sensory differences affect healthcare access and responses.
Identify the impact of diagnostic overshadowing on health outcomes.
Understand how unmet physical health needs affect daily functioning.
Apply reasonable adjustments to improve healthcare experiences.
