Understanding Autism

This session explores our modern understanding of autism as a neuro-developmental difference. It examines the three areas of difference that form our diagnostic criteria: communication, sensory processing, and the need for predictability, routine and familiarity.

This training is aimed to give a broad overview of autism applied across multiple sectors. It covers all the same areas as the autism component in mandatory health and social care training in a condensed form.

By completing this CPD session, participants will demonstrate that they can:

Describe autism using a neurodiverse affirming framework.

Recognise the three areas of difference in autism: communication, sensory processing, and the need for predictability, routine, and familiarity.

Understand common difficulties across multiple life domains: school, college, university, personal life, and health and social care.

Learn to adapt strategies to different sectors and life domains.

Learn from lived experience to apply a strengths-based approach.

This training provides 2-3 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and is suitable for professionals working in education, health, care, and corporate settings.
